Pothos are a beautiful addition to your area especially hanging pothos. So, before proceeding, it is important to know about this lovely addition. Pothos or Epipremnum aureum is native to the Solomon Islands of the South Pacific region. These plants will climb on trees in their natural habitat. 

Pothos grow about 65 feet long in their tropical habitat. Its stunning leaves look variegated and grow about 3 feet long and wide as well. They will remain in their starting phase or juvenile phase and reach only 10 feet in height. 

Various cultivars of this variety come in various shades, shapes, variegations, etc. This plant is not only unforgettable but also an unkillable houseplant that attracts everyone. Displaying Hanging Pothos plant

Pothos is a beautiful vine that is displayed amazingly in a hanging basket. Its vines will cascade smoothly from the basket. Though they will look fabulous in this way but also is a great way to keep the plant away from the reach of pets and children at home. But why so?

It is because there is a chemical compound present in its leaves named calcium oxalate crystals that is highly harmful to them to ingest. 

When you display hanging pothos in your location, the location lightens up and adds magical vibes to your location. There are different ways to hang the pothos plants. The most used method is to hang the plant from the ceiling in a hanging basket.

Hanging Pothos from the Ceiling

You have decided to display pothos in a hanging basket. It is important to secure the attachment of the basket to the ceiling. It can be done easily by following the below method: 

Step 1: Collect the materials

First, collect the materials including a planting pot, and basket that should have attached chains, wires, or straps.

If the basket is not having a ceiling hook, then pick a hook that can be attached to the basket, the plant, water, a liner, and potting mix. 

Keep in mind that the ceiling hook will work for the setup like drywall ceiling. Also, collect the step stool and a drill. 

Step 2: Marking the location

The next step comes here is to mark the location for the hook. Take a pencil drill a pilot hole and then install the hook into an exposed beam. 

You will also require a stud finder to find a joist with the help of a finished ceiling. 

Step 3: Lining the pot

After installing the hook, you have to line up the pot with the landscape fabric. It will help in flowing the water through the fabric in the drainage holes.

It will not let the soil or potting mix flow away. If you have pothos that grow well without soggy roots, then keep in mind to use a well-drained soil mix and a pot that has good drainage holes. 

It is important to not let the water sit in the room. So you can add a saucer pan to collect the water and then you remove it. Keep the bucket under the plant for a few weeks to catch up the excess water from it. 

Step 4: Last one

Last, but not least, it is the right time to keep the potted pothos in the basket and hence you will enjoy the trailing vines. 

Hanging Pothos from a Wall Attachment

As you have come to know about the hanging pothos from the ceiling. Now it is important to know about the photos from a wall attachment. It is not difficult as it can be done in various ways.

There are two methods followed by various gardeners. It is to use wall plant holders or install a bar that stands with the wall where the hanging basket can be hooked. 

Now the hanging basket area is covered. We will talk about installing wall plant holders. The ideal way to display pothos from the wall is to use a wall ring planter. Below are the following steps to install it. They are as follows: 

1. The first step to proceed with is to pick the wall ring planter, a flat bracket with the metal ring attached to it (It comes in various sizes that depend on its capacity to hold the pots). 
2. The size of the pot and ring should be compatible with each other so that the ring holds the pot appropriately.
3. After choosing the planter, choose the location for it on the wall.
4. Mark the point by using a stud finder so that you can drill the pilot hole.
5. After the pilot hole is drilled, then you have to screw the bracket directly into the stud.
6. It shows that it is the right time for planting. Make sure that the pot has drainage holes.
7. Last, but not least add a saucer under the plant to catch the excess water from the plant to avoid overwatering. 

Hanging Pothos: Tips for Successful Plants

Sometimes, the vines of the hanging pothos become too long, they may come close to the ground which is not good for them. So it is important to train the vines to run up along with the wall by installing small plant climbing mounts.

Yes, you have to follow this to solve this problem. It can be done by installing the mounts along the wall at different heights. Then, weave the pothos vines with the help of support gently. After that place the mounts at various heights as it will create a lovely look for the climbing vines. 

It is suggested to choose a bright location to hang the pothos. A location where the plant receives a good amount of indirect sunlight for about Eight hours a day is great. If not, the natural sunlight, then make use of artificial lightning between 10,000-20,000 lux. 

Last, but not least, water the hanging pothos once a week to make it hydrated. Also water, the plant when 2 to 3 inches of the soil becomes fully dry.

• It can even tolerate low sunlight climatic conditions for its growth. 
• Some of its varieties like much light, whereas some like to grow in indirect sunlight. 
• It likes to grow in the well-drained soil medium to remain healthy.
• Water the plant only when the top inches of the soil become fully dry. Avoid overwater and root rot in the plant.
• Repot this variety when the plant becomes overgrown and its foliage comes out from the drainage holes. 
• It will grow best in the ideal temperature that ranges from 60 to 80°F. 
• This plant does not demand regular pruning. Remove all the dead and decayed leaves and stems from the plant when visible. 
• It is easy to propagate this plant by using the stem cuttings and planting them in water.
