Fiddle Leaf Fig Temperature (Ways to Maintain Temperature)

My fiddle leaf fig was blooming perfectly for a few days after I bought it, but I don’t have any clue what mistake I made that led my plant to dry out. Trust me, I didn’t realize this basic requirement would affect my plant, because even after providing every basic requirement, I failed.

Do you want to know where I went wrong? It’s all because of the temperature. Fiddle leaf figs thrive in just the right temperature, which is the key to keeping them happy. So, if you are also growing them, you should know what steps to avoid. That’s why I’m here to share my experience of growing fiddle leaf figs, the reasons behind temperature getting impacted, and ways to maintain it. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s start learning something new.

Ideal Temperature Range:

The ideal temperature range for Fiddle Leaf Figs is not too hot, and not too cold such as  65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C) which hits them perfectly for their leafy beauties.

Here are some important points to consider for fiddle leaf fig temperature:

Why Consistency Matters:

  • Providing the plant with a perfect range will create a comfort zone.
  • The fiddle leaf fig growing at a steady temperature will not show any tantrums, drooping leaves, or halting growth.

The Link to Lush Leaves:

  • Maintaining a consistent warmth temperature within the perfect page will be like a green thumb’s secret sauce.
  • Doing this will help to encourage healthy foliage and will maintain the overall growth of the plant.

Flower Power:

  • Although fiddle leaf figs aren’t known for their flowers but when they bloom it’s a rare spectacle.
  • When you keep the temperature in the right range will increase the opportunity to see this beautiful flower.
Fiddle Leaf Fig Temperature (Ways to Maintain Temperature)

Maintaining the Ideal Temperature:

Maintaining an ideal temperature consistency is the perfect way to keep them happy i.e. 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C). The following are some ways to maintain Fiddle Leaf Fig temperature:

Use correct Technology:

  • Using thermostats is not just comfortable for Fiddle Leaf Fig but it’s the guardian of greenery.
  • It will help to maintain s steady temperature within the ideal range, making them bloom in cold shock.

Insulate Against the Elements:

  • Here I will say, that drafty windows and doors are the enemy of stable temperature.
  • You need to seal them if you are keeping fiddle leaf figs near them to prevent plants from temperature misbalancing.

Location:

  • Remember to place the plant away from air vents, radiators, and exterior doors.
  • The main goal is to avoid the hot and cold drafts which will lead to the plant getting cold, worse, or a fever.

Humidity Helpers:

  • If the plant is suffering in dry winter months a humidifier is best to use.
  • Keep it at least 5 feet away from the plant without overdoing it.

Light conditions:

  • Keeping the fiddle leaf fig in an east-facing window will be the best spot where there is not too much nor too little light.
  • In the case of the fiddle leaf fig looking like a sad salad, it is a clear sign to move the plant to a spot where there is better light.

With Seasons Change:

  • As the season changes outside the window so according to which your plant care strategy should change.
  • You need to keep the fiddle leaf fig away from direct AC in summer and from the parching heat of radiators in winter.
  • Remember to maintain a steady temperature all around Fiddle Leaf Fig.

Temperature Stress Signs:

Knowing the temperature stress is crucial for the survival of fiddle leaf fig and here I’ve explained all:

Signs of Cold Stress:

  • If the plant is kept below 55°F, it enters a dormant state which shows displeasure stress signs.
  • If the fiddle leaf fig gets too chilly the plant will start dropping leaves.
  • Frostbite is considered a serious problem that is irreversible and when the plant’s frostbitten part will not recover.

Signs of Heat Stress:

  • When you keep the fiddle leaf fig in too hot a spot will start to look like they are sunbathing for too long.
  • The leaves of the plant will start to get crispy with dry, brown edges, or develop dark, sunburnt spots.

Immediate Actions:

  • In case of notice any signs of them you just stand doing nothing, make sure to move the plant to the right spot away from drafts or scorching windows.
  • Any sudden move will cause the plant to have more leaves drooping pretending to give you a silent, leafy scream.

Note:

Remember to keep the fiddle leaf fig away from air conditioners and heaters. Don’t keep the plant too close to the window on sunny days because magnified sun rays will result in causing more effect on the plant.

Addressing Temperature Stress:

Here are the following ways to address the temperature stress of fiddle leaf fig:

Relocation:

  • Make sure to move the plant with all care without damaging any part of it.
  • A sudden change to the plant will give them shock or stress.
  • During cold temperatures place it away from drafts and closer to life-affirming warmth.
  • Keeping them closer will cause scorching on the leaves.

Climate Control:

  • The Thermostats and insulation are best to use against temperature swings.
  • It does feel like a cozy blanket or a refreshing ice pack for fiddle leaf figs.

Humidity:

  • Providing the plant with dry air is a silent killer for fiddle leaf figs.
  • The only way is to mist it a couple of times a week or running a humidifier is only a lifeline for the plant, mainly when the heating system will suck the life out from the location.

Drafts:

  • Keep the plant away from AC chill or the winter draft will make the plant’s leaves leaving them droopy.
  • Keeping them close to even a gentle fan when it’s a breeze will harm your plant.

Sunlight:

  • Providing the plant with sunlight is perfect but too much light will turn your  Fiddle Leaf Fig into a crispy critter.
  • Using sheer curtains will soften the light by providing a sunscreen that helps protect the plant’s delicate skin.

Consistency: The thumb rule:

  • The fiddle leaf figs thrive best and are predictable in which watering or misting will be fixed.
  •  They don’t create any drama or ask for much because it’s a stable, loving environment.
  • When fiddle leaf figs get a steady temperature there will be chances of avoiding any drama.

Impact of Low and High Temperatures:

The following are some impacts of providing low and high temperatures to fiddle leaf figs:

Low-Temperature Effects:

  • During the stage of mercury dipping too low the Fiddle Leaf Figs give different signs such as leaf discoloration, yellowing or a defeated brown giving you the signs to help them which is not just an aesthetic issue.
  • The planting kept in cold conditions will affect the growth of the plant such as leaving the plant stunted and sulking which feels like keeping the plant in time out but the whole room is a freezer.

High-Temperature Havoc:

  • The plant suffering from leaf burn is equivalent to a nasty sunburn and dehydration which is like a hangover after attending a bachelor party. Making them neither a conductive to flowering nor a basic plant dignity.
  • When the plant gets high heat will make the fiddle leaf fig into a crispy critter.

The Balancing Act:

  • You need to keep the fiddle leaf fig at the right temperature is key for a healthy plant.
  • Too cold a temperature feels like sending the plant on an ill-prepared Arctic expedition.
  • Too hot a temperature feels like keeping it in the Sahara with a fur coat.
  • Keeping them at the right temperature will help you avoid any drama of the temperature issues.

Seasonal Changes Hurt Fiddle Leaf Fig:

Here are some details about seasonal changes that can hurt the fiddle leaf fig:

Light changes:

  • Now you know that fiddle leaf figs love to grow in light. It becomes challenging in the autumn because here the days get shorter and the sunlight provided to the plant is less bright and comes down at steeper angles.
  • The sun used to change position in the sky when the seasons changes and when the plant gets happy in a certain window all summer will get the leaves sunburned when it shifts to direct light in the fall or when the light decreases and when the plant doesn’t get enough light.
  • Give the fiddle leaf fig a quality of light from the window so that when you see any sun shifting directly in the window it happens mostly when you keep the plant in south-facing windows in the northern hemisphere and northern-facing windows in the southern hemisphere then it time to move the plant.
  • In the same way, when the sun shifts from a window, you will see the signs that fiddle leaf fig is not getting enough light.
  • In this case, you need to use grow light during all the darker months.

Temperature changes:

  • The most harmful seasonal change that can hurt the fiddle leaf fig is temperature changes.
  • During the spring the temperature gets warmer and the plants get happy. But the real difficulty comes in the fall when the temperature drops.
  • The fiddle leaf figs are tropical plants that prefer growing in warm temperatures not lower than 55 degrees Fahrenheit at night.
  • In case of keeping it outdoors then you need to bring them indoors at once when the temperatures drop.
  • Living in a cold climate where you might experience lower temperatures during fall and winter which reduces the fiddle leaf figs watering need so make sure to maintain the perfect moisture level of the soil.
  • If you see the soil is taking longer time than usual to dry out it is time to reduce the amount of watering to fiddle leaf figs but do keep the same schedule.

Drafts:

  • Getting in detail about temperature, now it’s time to discuss the fiddle leaf fig’s least favorite things in its draft.
  • Drafts are the seasonal changes that hurt most the fiddle leaf fig.
  • If you are living in a temperature where it’s moderate level so be aware of mindful doors and drafty windows near the tree.
  • Keeping the plant near a door opening and closing or sitting by a cold window will make your plant freeze which causes the leaves of the plant to turn black.
  • When you keep the plant near the door for most of the year, I think then it’s time to find a better spot.
  • Keeping the plant close to a drafty window so here you may want to move the plant or keep the plant in weather sealed window.

Heating/cooling vents:

  • This type of situation can hurt your fiddle leaf fig. So when the temperature get changes, we turn off the AC or heat to make the environment more comfortable and all these conditions will help the plant get more comfortable when the vents are far away from the plant.
  • The vent kept closer to the fiddle leaf fig emits extremely dry air that causes the fiddle leaves to dry and crack on them.
  • You need to shift the plant to a better place when the plant is kept near a vent or space heater.

Adapting Watering Routines:

  • As the seasons change, you need to change your watering habits.
  • The cold weather makes the soil less thirsty so don’t drown fiddle leaf fig by reducing watering needs but follow a consistent schedule.

Conclusion:

I will conclude here with an important note, just remember to keep the fiddle leaf fig at the right temperature and change the spot with seasonal change that is the only key to keeping the plant and blooming healthy.
